A people who have forgotten their history have no future.
Too harsh? Too unqualified? Too definite? Probably. For all I know, a little amnesia may be good for us, to free us from slavish repetition of our past.
But too much amnesia — and too short an attention span — means you can’t ever correct course, because you don’t understand where you started from, how you got to where you are, and (therefore, by logical deduction) where you’re headed.
Besides, it’s all so interesting!

Your post came up on my google alert for my film: American Feud: A History of Conservatives and Liberals. We made our little labor of love for just the reasons you mention, you need to understand where you have been to figure out where you are headed. Always nice to see a kindred spirit. best regards, S
